So, is it possible for a professional copy editor to read anything just for the pleasure of reading? This article makes it sound like the answer is no, which I think would dilute the joy of reading….which would be a shame.
I can only answer for myself, but the answer for me is yes, I can absolutely read just for the joy of it. Unless the editing really is that bad, but in that case I think most people would find the errors distracting.
I’m far more likely to notice mistakes in television and advertising. The whole “I want to be one less” campaign makes me want to pull my hair out (if you’re talking about something countable, you use “fewer” and not “less”).
